Ferdinand Leffler is one of our the most interesting personalities in contemporary garden architecture. Host of TV shows ”Ferdinand´s gardens”; discussing garden architecture trends.”Garden of the year 2019”; an authentic series depicting the spectacle of dissimulation through the owners personality. It brings to it an element in which interiors don’t have.  It presents a whole range of features, the ordinarily, new, mature and preexisting  – observation from day to night landscapes, space and a true experience with nature.

Modern gardens are enviromentally friendly. Today gardens are practical, perfectly functional. Gardens must be prevailing and honest like the owner. Contemporary garden architecture has a bond with building architecture and transforms common  living rooms sliding glass panels, into beautiful and ever changing scenic landscapes. The exterior and interior penetration is most unforgettable aspect during the overall garden design process

Top 10 gardening trends in 2019

1/ Gardens without grass, gardens for dry seasons.

„The picture of garden with simply grass and fence is no longer. After a few dry seasons everyone is noticing that a large part of the seasons withered grass does not bring with it much joy.  We are inspired by Californian colleges, who have an advantage with this problem. They have been designing drought resistant gardens for many years. We are able to design and implement gardens completely without grass.“

2/ Do not use/avoid imitations and artificial materials

The honesty and truthfulness which is dictating modern gastronomy as well as fashion, is not exempt from gardening either. No artificial flavouring and coloring is used in garden architecture! Wood is wood, stone is stone and concrete is concrete. Imitations are not saving money, it is the other way around. This make from garden scented misery and circus. It is no good.

3/ Prefere to work with local materials

It is more authentic than anything available . We are content to use local materials and ask a local quarry then to order sandstone mined from India.

5/ Cooking in the garden

Not everyone has a big enough kitchen to invite whole family over for Sunday lunch. Although, in the garden there is more then enough space for entertaining and fun. This should also be one of the main purposes of having garden. Outside we can enjoy different styles of cooking which you can´t achieve in the kitchen.

6/ Gardens are wellcoming sculptors

In the last few years we have witnessed the formation of many beautiful and harmonical gardens which are very presumptuous to be authentic backdrops of unrepeatable stories. Gardens are maturing and starting to see sculptures as part of their story, artistic personality, underlining the uniqueness of the garden and it‘s inconspicuous humility.

I perceive very positively the developers interest to invest into the greenery and outdoor places in new projects. Investors are not happy with ”just” a nice flat or home.  They expect more then just green space filling their development. They want to have chance to spend quality time outside. They are expecting an environment where they can meet their neighbors and build a community.

8/ Bio-pool or bio degradable pool

This trend has been around for few years, however, through of  advanced technology. I have to mention this again. Water without chemistry, full of life with the scent of fresh water.

9/ Plant beautiful ordinary local plants

This trend is influenced by the dry seasons we have experienced in the last few years. As well as we are trying to minimize the time we spend maintaining our gardens. What can grow better then native plants. They grow and prosper without any persuasion.

10/ We grow veggies and breed domestic animals

In my opinion it is another trend focused through asking yourself; how do you like to spend time in your garden, what is attracting you there? We want to have our own fresh fruit and veggies, yet we are mainly interested in the magical process of growing plants from seedlings to beautiful ripe fruit and veggies.
