In the historic grounds of a 17th-century manor house, which had fallen into disrepair over the years, Flera designed a garden that sensitively combines history with a modern approach to architecture. Today it is part of the luxurious Chateau Troja residence and provides a harmonious environment for relaxation and social life.
Instead of taking inspiration from formal castle gardens, we chose rustic elements that refer to the original character of the place. The main goal was to create a space that is full of greenery, aesthetically impressive and at the same time low-maintenance, as the garden is taken care of by a management company. At the same time, we wanted to offer a space for a variety of activities – from quiet seating to gathering with friends. We kept the lawn to a minimum so that the other more vibrant elements of the garden would stand out.
When we thought about the character of the garden, we drew inspiration from the surroundings of Troja Castle. Bosquets, regular rhythm and axial symmetry, all combined with natural materials and plants that evoke historic landscape structures, but are also in keeping with today’s concept of gardens. This mix has created an atmosphere that connects the past with the present, offering both quiet corners and open spaces for social activities.
The paved areas are a combination of granite blocks and concrete slabs, which together create a relaxed but elegant whole. Greenery plays a key role in the overall composition – a rich perennial palate, mature trees and small private gardens within the complex, where tree species are repeated, contribute to the diversity of the space. Water features in the form of bronze bowls with overflowing water add an artistic character and natural dynamism to the place. The result is a space that combines elegance with comfort, history with the present and offers a pleasant place to live and relax.
