The whole area of the Portum Towers courtyard is significantly structured. Landscape modelling richly planted with mature trees brings several benefits. They offer visitors the opportunity to discover different corners, bring dynamism to the space and, last but not least, dampen the wind to which the area will be exposed in the future. The central part of the Portum Towers park is mainly made up of shade-loving vegetation evoking a forest environment. The pleasant shade of the canopy of the proposed trees and the water feature with falling water will provide visitors with shelter from the hot concrete city during hot summer days. The height difference between Portum and Ister Park is addressed through steps and ramps. The entire peripheral area is divided into two terraces, allowing a seamless visual connection between the two parts without unnecessary height barriers.
For the entrance area of Portum Towers – a square with a large entrance staircase with ramps and plantings – the water element and the water falling on the stairs, ending up in a narrow pool, is an important moment. The nature of the surface is more representative of the function of the square, in the form of large-scale granite paving, which also appears in certain segments in the park. The residential character of the square is supported by raised seating beds with steel edging, which also allows space for planting larger shrubs and trees. At the courtyard level, we are treated to a spectacular play of light and shadow, alternating terrain patterns and nooks and crannies.
The parterre space of the north wing is flanked on the right by raised beds with rich perennial plantings and taller shrubs or trees. The height difference is overcome by a staircase from which three low walls emerge to create two terraces planted with perennials. The paving close to the building is made up of granite cobbles that flow seamlessly from the façade. It then gradually merges into large format paving.
