Small urban garden with mature birch trees

The family garden at the modern reconstructed villa in Prague’s Lysolaje is an example of how an oasis of peace and quiet can be created even in a limited space. The aim of the project was not only to connect two buildings – a family house and a sculpture studio – but also to provide enough space for all members of the household, including four-legged friends. The desire was also to have enough space to maneuver around the sculpture studio at the back of the garden, which visually terminates the property. The front garden is separated from the road by fencing, which has been partially reconstructed and is joined by perennial planting and access paths made from Prague mosaic. The garden is formally separated by a timber fence (for the safety of the dachshunds) following the main access gate. The siting of the buildings provides an interesting height division within the garden, with the ground divided into higher and lower levels by a concrete wall with timber decals. The wall is followed by staircases made of stone steps that overcome the height differences. The main stay in the garden takes place in relation to the house, on a wooden terrace complete with a dining set and small seating areas. The terrace also includes a barbecue area and a log cabin. The upper level of the lawned garden, lined with plantings of wild perennials, is designed for dachshund play and smaller seating areas in the green, complete with a water feature under a canopy of birch and maple trees. The garden is enclosed by walls covered with climbing plants to provide much needed privacy.
