The scope of the project was the area around the new office building, including the parking area, roof terrace (5th floor) and two balconies (4th floor).
Parking
The client’s requirement was to create a functionally connected unit combining car parking and a residential green space under the treetops. The parking is provided by fifteen parking spaces screened by structures with climbing plants. In the section closest to the entrance of the building, there is a space in the green for users of the building to sit or have a short business meeting. The entrance to the parking lot and the adjacent driveway area along the building is designed with grass pavers to promote the green character of the project as much as possible. All parking and vehicular circulation areas are designed with permeable surfaces.
There is also a strong emphasis on vertical climbing foliage, both on the building itself and on structures screening parking spaces. The living area portion of the green space is dominated by a group of eight trees and gravel beds with mixed plantings of bamboo, shrubs, perennials, grasses and bulbs. The central part is formed by a gravelled area accessed from the parking area, flanked by arched benches. The sense of privacy is also enhanced by two wooden screens in rounded shapes interspersed with bamboos and shrub planting along the perimeter fencing.
The area in front of the building on the north side is an “island” with a gravel bed and planting of three trees. Another section ‘behind the fence’ flanks the site at its eastern boundary. These parts are immediately adjacent to the house and the area and form a visual unit with them. The intention is to cultivate this area as well and create the best possible surroundings for the building.
The courtyard on the ground floor
The ground floor of the building houses a beauty salon, which has a small courtyard on the south side with a terrace seating area. A planting area is proposed in the space between the perimeter wall and the terrace. The garden has a calm and simple feel, composed of bamboos and groundcover perennials.
Roof terrace (5th floor)
The residential terrace is intended to serve all those working in the building. It has a capacity of 15 people. The roof consists of two areas separated by height – a larger living area and a smaller area above the staircase for roof greenery with a screening function. The living area consists of a generous area of wooden terrace flanked by a planting area with roof vegetation. On the terrace there are 5 containers with multi-stemmed trees. The essential element of the space is the shading sails anchored to the columns, which will shelter the workplaces with furniture.
Balconies (4th floor)
The balconies have a north and south exposure. Each balcony has two planters with plantings of climbing plants and perennials. A stainless steel mesh anchored into the façade of the building serves as support for the climbing plants.
